Function of Ganoderma Lucidum

Function of Ganoderma Lucidum………………………

Ganoderma lucidum or reishi, is a mushroom known as the “king of herbs” in Chinese medicine. Ganoderma lucidum, as an herbal supplement, has been known in the East for thousands of years.

Emperors and kings in Japan and China drank teas made from ganoderma lucidum, and Taoists thought it to be a component of the elixir of youth that they had sought for generations.

Function of Ganoderma Lucidum

Ganoderma lucidum in modern times is used primarily as a tonic for longevity and overall health. Elixirs made from the herb are often taken to energize the body and increase blood flow. Some say it can also promote wisdom and happiness.

Ganoderma lucidum’s medicinal properties are attributed to substances known as triterpenes and polysaccharides. The mushroom is extremely rare, with only two or three out of 10,000 aged trees able to produce it. Ganoderma lucidum grows in networks called myecelium that start underground in logs, soil and waste and, under the right conditions, surface above the ground.

Benefits of Ganoderma Lucidum

Ganoderma lucidum is said to have a range of health benefits in addition to its use as a general tonic. Its ability to reduce inflammation makes it useful in treating a diverse list of conditions, including Alzheimers disease and heart disease.

It is thought that inflammation plays a significant role in these and other conditions, which may account for the function of ganoderma lucidum as a tonic to promote longevity.

Ganoderma lucidum may also boost immunity and prevent the growth of cancer. It can also maximize the power of antioxidants like vitamin C when the two substances are used together. Some evidence suggests that teas made from ganoderma lucidum may help to reduce pain caused by neuralgia and herpes zoster infection as well.

Ganoderma Lucidum Side Effects

Ganoderma lucidum can be taken in liquid form as well as in tablets or capsules containing dried extracts of the herb. It is also available as a dried powder that can be dissolved in water to make a tea.

It appears to be very safe to take a ganoderma lucidum supplement, though some people report side effects like dry mouth, dizziness, nosebleeds or abdominal discomfort. Such side effects are are typically mild and usually occur only when ganoderma lucidum is taken for many months at a time.

Ganoderma lucidum should not be used by patients on anticoagulant medications or by pregnant or lactating women.
