Causes of the common cold include any of more than 200 viruses that infect the upper respiratory tract.

Smoking or being around someone who smokes, causes a person’s immune system to be lower which makes it easier to get a cold.

It is very important to note that if a person is run down, depressed, stressed out, not getting the needed amount of rest or lacking a healthy diet, the chance of them getting a cold is much higher than a person who does not have these factors.

If possible, keep your contact limited with someone who has a cold. Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.

Wash your hands often and thoroughly. Do not use any of the items used by a person with a cold, such as a towel or taking a drink from the same glass.
