Saw Palmetto derives its name from the saw toothed stems that lie at the base of each palm leaf from the American palm tree. Side effects of the palmetto berry are very mild. They include mild stomach discomfort, nausea, dizziness, and headaches. Lowering the dosage could relieve some of these symptoms. If you take saw palmetto with food you also minimize the risks of an upset stomach.
If combined with other prostate-healthy herbs such as pygeum africanum, nettle, or pumpkin seed, you can possibly increase its effectiveness for prostate problems.
